Global cryptocurrency exchange Binance has joined forces with AltSchool Africa, a leading tech talent acquisition platform, to launch a scholarship initiative aimed at empowering 500 young Africans with digital skills. This initiative will run from January 2025 to December 31, 2025.
According to a statement seen on Technext, the collaboration seeks to address Africa’s digital skills gap by providing access to specialized education in fields such as software engineering, cybersecurity, sales, and content creation. The program will also equip recipients with in-demand skills to navigate today’s rapidly evolving job market.
Scholarship Details
The Binance scholarship scheme will fully cover tuition fees, enabling recipients to participate in AltSchool Africa’s structured programs. These programs are designed to foster digital proficiency and position African youth for success in a global digital economy.
Additionally, recipients will gain access to:
- Mentorship from industry experts.
- Career support to secure competitive roles.
- Practical training to build strong foundations in their chosen fields.
Binance’s Vision for Africa
Samantha Fuller, Binance’s spokesperson, emphasized the company’s dedication to driving change through education.
“Through this partnership with AltSchool Africa, we are excited to provide opportunities that will help shape the future of many young students across the continent. Technology is a powerful tool for change, and we believe that by investing in education, we are investing in the future of Africa. Our goal is to empower students to become innovators and leaders in the tech space.”
Bridging the Digital Skills Gap
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) projects that by 2030, 230 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa will require digital skills. Alarmingly, only 2% of the African workforce currently possesses these skills.
By offering these scholarships, Binance and AltSchool Africa aim to bridge this gap and equip African youth with expertise for the future digital economy.
AltSchool Africa’s Head of Global Operations, Nifemi Akinwamide, remarked:
“With this partnership, we are able to reach more young Africans passionate about building a career in the digital economy, offering them a variety of our diploma programs and short courses. We laud Binance for this incredible initiative which will positively impact the lives of hundreds of Africans across the continent.”
Expanding Opportunities
Binance views this initiative as part of its commitment to empowering young Africans through education. This effort aligns with the company’s social impact goals of fostering an inclusive digital economy.
By enhancing local talent, the scholarships will open pathways for African students to access global opportunities in high-demand tech fields.
AltSchool Africa’s Global Expansion
In addition to its African programs, AltSchool Africa recently launched AltSchool Europe, its European subsidiary. This expansion aims to address Europe’s tech talent shortage by connecting businesses with skilled individuals seeking upskilling opportunities.
Co-founder and CEO of AltSchool Africa, Adewale Yusuf, noted:
“This expansion allows us to bring our solution to regions facing their own unique challenges in tech talent acquisition while continuing to serve our mission of equipping individuals for tomorrow’s jobs.”
